When organizing your garage, there are several things to consider. First, you need to evaluate the amount of clutter in your garage. Once you evaluate everything in your garage, do away with anything that is of no use to you or an immediate family member within the household.
If you have not used an item for some time and do not see yourself using it within the near future the best thing to do is to get rid of it, as it is only cluttering up your garage.
Once you determine the items that you are going to dispose, of you will need to make a decision of how you will get rid of the unwanted items. You can give them away, or consider having a garage sale. Anything that doesn't sell can be picked up. With a little research you can find a company who will pick up your unwanted items for little or no cost.
Look at the interior of your garage as you would look at any other room in your home. Obviously, the garage is not to be a location where friends, guests and family members congregate in the same way they may in your other rooms, but if you put yourself in the mind-set that your garage is part of your home and should be treated as such, this will help you keep your garage organized and clean so that you can get the best possible use from the space.
Consider a new coat of paint. A nice clean white color will give the feeling of fresh, clean and simple atmosphere. Make sure your garage is clean and tidy cleaning up any dust, cobwebs, and other debris. If it's a nice day out, keep the garage door open and let some fresh air into the space.
Put items in groups that work together. For example, tools in one place, gardening equipment in another, lawn equipment in another and so forth. Gardening tools can be placed in a container that can easily be carried out and after being used, can be placed back in the container without getting other items in your garage dirty.
If you have children, make certain that any harmful items are placed out of reach.
If you have random nails and screws lying around consider getting a strip of a very strong magnet. These magnets can be ordered online or can be purchased from your local hardware store. The magnets will hold your stray nails and screws in place making them easier to fine.
If your family has bicycles, and you keep them in the garage consider a storage system which connects to the wall, or hang them from the garage ceiling. These items can also be purchased online or at your local hardware store.
A shelf or cabinet is an excellent place to store household items such as light bulbs, batteries, and any other small items that you may use on a more frequent basis.
Once you get your garage clean and organized, you will find that it will simplify your life, and you will want to keep it that way.
