A messy garage is something homeowners try to ignore. Organizing one's garage is a dreaded task that is often put off again and again. Don't feel discouraged if your parking space looks like a storage room. Here are some recommended tips to make garage organizing go easier,
Dedicate This Project The Right Amount of Time
You don't really know how long this is going to take. You might need a couple of days or even a couple of weekends to clean up. Write it in your calendar, and don't make extra plans besides that project. Dedicate that whole day or weekend to cleaning and organizing.
Throw Away The Junk
When it comes to garages, many of them store a lot of junk. Look at all the things that are broken or don't work anymore as well as things you don't really know why you have kept. It might be time to throw these things away.
If something needs repairing, decide whether or not it's worth the time, money, and effort. If it's not worth it, then just throw it away. There's no point in keeping it and you need the space.
Resell or Donate
If you find things that still work but have no use for you, consider donating them. You can also organize a garage sale outside your home to get rid of a lot of stuff and get some extra cash. The best time to do this is early on the weekends by making signs and placing them around the neighborhood so people know about your sale. Also, consider online sources such as eBay and Etsy as an alternative way to sell stuff. You might be surprised about how much what you find is worth.
Get Storage Bins and Shelves
Once you know what you want to keep, look for effective ways to organize your stuff. You will probably need sturdy shelves and spacious bins to keep everything organized. You can find what you need in warehouse hardware stores.
Plan carefully and according to the space in your garage. Remember that your objective is to have enough space to park your car.
Aim to organize everything in categories: Christmas decorations, tools, collectibles, and more. Also, try to label everything so in the future you know what you have.
Once you get rid of all the junk and organize and label the things you want to keep, it's time to clean up. Dust the shelves, sweep up the floor thoroughly, and mop if necessary. Garages are rarely thoroughly cleaned; this is the perfect chance to do it! Don't leave it for another day.
Put Your Car Inside
Now that your parking space is no longer a storage room, you can put your car on its rightful place. Isn't that great? All that hard work paid off. So get motivated!

Garages are primarily used for parking cars but for most men, it is also where they conduct their "extra" works such as fixing broken things, creating stuffs and all those crafting that men are so fond of. Then again, not all garages are spacious enough to allow extra activities; but you can do something so that it can accommodate not just your car and mechanical tools but as well as your other things. You just need to have garage storage cabinets.
Garage storage cabinets are very useful especially if you have limited space. You can put your tools there in an organized manner so that it will be easier for you to access them when needed. However, you should not just buy one on whim. You should take certain things in consideration before you head on to the furniture shop because buying the wrong one could result to disaster. Here are some things to keep in mind prior to buying a storage cabinet for your garage:
1. Space - first and foremost, you need to determine where you are going to put the cabinet or cabinets on and then measure it so that you will know what size you are going to buy. In measuring, you have to consider leaving space for you to still move comfortably when in the garage so that it will surely give convenience rather than strain.
2. Material - there are many options for garage cabinet materials such as steel, wood, plastic and others and each of them has its strengths and weaknesses. One thing to consider in choosing the material is how well it can stand the different elements present in the garage such as moist and humidity. This ability could help determine the length of time the furniture can serve you and of course, it would be preferable to have one that could really last.
3. Usability - it is also important to take note of how functional the cabinet would be. Remember that the reason you are buying one is to maximize your garage space and for better organization. So, you may want to include the number and sizes of the compartmentalization as a consideration in choosing the cabinets for your garage.
Having garage storage cabinets would definitely make your garage a more conducive place to work in. The key, however, is to pick the right one and taking the above considerations before buying would help you end up with the perfect piece of furniture.

Overhead garage storage is not a mystery, is very affordable, it can be done by a handy do it yourself person and will create immediate new storage space. Take a walk around your local neighborhood on any clear sunny Saturday afternoon when people are home and have their garages doors up. What you will see is many of your neighbors share a common problem with you, garage storage at its worst with piles of personal items, trash bins, and boxes taking up most of the floor space in their garages. Why is this shared problem so common with homeowners? Simply put; older and even some newer homes were never designed nor constructed with adequate built-in utility storage. The homeowner is left on their own when it comes to finding and organizing storage for items used to service the home like rakes, shovels, lawnmowers, and hand tools, not to mention all the personal papers, boxes, decorations, where to put them?
Today, the average home garage has a large open attic area of unused storage space. Typically, this unused space is not functional space only available space and it requires improvement for use as overhead storage. Generally, improvements include plywood coverage over the open floor joists, a drop down ladder for safe entrance to the attic from the garage floor level, perhaps enhanced lighting, and a direct wired or wireless storage lift solution to get your items safely in the attic space.
These improvements can all be done by a do it yourself homeowner. Your new overhead garage storage all starts with a plan.
When it comes to planning your overhead garage storage and attic space, consider your needs for off the floor storage and organization such as storage cabinets, shelves, wall storage with hooks to hang things and open baskets to hold things. A little extra planning and a small investment will make a big difference in the organization and access of all your stored possessions.

If you're like me, I love gardening and being in the yard during the warm months, here in Chicago. The crisp air has brought the reality that it is now time to close up shop for the year. Many people seem overwhelmed with how much room all this stuff can take up in a garage. If you're lucky, you have a shed.
The main tip today is to MAXIMIZE your SPACE wherever you store these items. Turn 2 feet of floor space into 10 feet of shelf space. Easy to assemble, freestanding, acrylic shelf units; 5 shelves that are 24 inches across and 18 or 24 inches deep are a great answer. The depth is the key with these. Most freestanding shelves are only 12 inches deep.
Remember each shelf unit, or each shelf should have a BROAD, but SPECIFIC THEME. I am fortunate to have a shed, but you'll find shelves on either side. On one side I keep all my pool items. The other has the gardening equipment and yard decorations. Things I won't need till the weather is great again, next year, go in the way back of the shed. Those I may still want to pull out, go in the front. I also put utility hooks on the walls for items with handles or stuff I can bag up and hang. Tall garbage cans are also great to contain tall items and tools or bulky items like the tent.
Whether in a shed or the garage, make sure that each corner in the space has a Broad, but Specific theme too; just like how a kindergarten classroom is set up. If you're storing in the garage, one corner could be for holiday decorating, one for the kids toys and another may be where the workbench and tools are housed; the fix-it corner. By doing this, you know where to find things and where to put things away. Don't forget you're paying for the ceiling space too. Could hooks go up there for the bikes or shelves for out of season items?
For some of you, the best thing about maximizing your space is that now the car, or maybe even both, can go in the garage for the winter months.
Remember, that the best gift to give someone who has it all, but doesn't know what to do with it, is the gift of organization.
As always Happy Organizing.
I Came, I Saw, I Organized!

Yes we all know that garage space is what we would call "premo" space. And today we are going to be talking about more garage solutions that a lot of folks are are going to be interested in because just about everyone has a bike or two or maybe even three. This article is all about garage storage racks and in particular bike storage racks.
You see the thing with garages is that most people just do not pay them much attention. There is no garage love as I call it. Things and stuff just get thrown into the garage in a haphazard manner. You know, where ever you can squeeze things in is where they end up. There is just no love.
But folks, it really does not have to be that way because there are so many absolutely terrific garage solutions on the market today and.... they are relatively inexpensive as well.
So back to storing our bikes. Again, because the garage floor is "premo" space, we do not want to waste even 1 square foot of space that we don't have to. And using garage storage racks to store our bikes is the perfect garage solution.
One of my favorite bike garage storage racks is the floor-to-ceiling tension type of storage rack. Why? Because it takes your storage up and off the floor. We are talking vertical garage storage racks here. And isn't that a great and efficient use of space.
Another reason why I really like the floor-to-ceiling bike rack is because it is dead easy to assemble and it holds 2 bikes. Some have a pretty high load capacity and will adjust to hold 4 bikes. All you need to do is to purchase one of those inexpensive Add-A-Bike kits. In other words, you can customize this garage solution to meet your family's growing needs.
And here is a tip when purchasing your bike rack. Make sure it is made of silver anodized aluminum construction because that means it should not rust or discolor. And that is super important - who wants to hang their bikes on a rusty old rack?
And last but not least, most bike garage storage racks are height adjustable. If your garage is anywhere between 7' and 11' then this garage storage rack is going to work for you.
Oh, and did I mention that these floor-to-ceiling garage storage racks are really quite attractive. And by installing one, you will not only be creating one of those perfect garage solutions, but you will also be showing your garage the love!

Many people use overhead storage units for bicycle storage. It's easy to hang them from many different styles of shelving or hanging units. Some overhead products are made specifically to hang bicycles, while others can be used just the same to hang them up.
